 Week 12 Sunday

 June 29 2014

Oh okay I realize that none of you are going to be too interested in the following information but it makes me jump up and down with joy.

Down lights and electrical are showing up all over the house.  These are all LED's pricey but they save on electricity and the lights last at least 10 years.

Plumbing is going in the master and I get to keep the Bathroom configuration that I had planned.
Not so in the Guest Bath, but I like this better just thought it would be easier to leave WC in the same position.  These are in wall tanks for the wall hang toilets.  Yea, nothing on the floor to make it difficult to clean.  And they can be installed at the new favorite height 19" . Previously known as ADA compliant but as we age now known as adult height.

Water hookup for stacking washer and dryer in master dressing area.  Didn't really appreciate how convenient this is until we moved to a building without an in-unit laundry.

The plumbers are almost done except the showers and of course I am doing something that they are not familiar with so there is a learning curve and the specs leave a lot to be desired.  Hopefully we will get this straightened out on Monday so they can finish up.

Next week we should finish up electric and the Heating ducts will be installed.  The following week is the AV wiring.  Then all I need to do is figure out this floor.  Seems like I can't do the polished concrete with lite-crete so have to come up with an alternative.

Really like this look.  They have used Ardex which could be a rather simple solution.  Of course nothing I think is simple ever works out that way.  Will be talking to the contractor on Monday.

 Week 12 Tuesday

 June 24, 2014

Things are looking up.  I am really pleased with the idea of concrete floors.  I have decided to do a polished finish with a 5' grid pattern.  The polished floors look like glass when they are finished and are really easy to maintain.

The plumber showed up today and I am going to be able to do my wall hung WCs and where I want them.  No compromise, is good for a change.

Waiting for my final drawings for the windows so I can place my order and the cabinets.

Still waiting for the electricians to show up on the job.

   Week 11 Saturday

 June 21 2014

The piles have again mysteriously disappeared.  Well maybe not so mysteriously, a lot of guys carrying the large lumber pieces down the stairs and out of the building.  The windows have all been removed, leveled and either re-installed or plywood is in place.  The window ladies appeared and decisions have been made about installation and exactly how to order.  The final order should be ready on Monday or Tuesday and the new windows will be here in 4 to 6 weeks.

I met again with the electrician and hi-tech people to co-ordinate the installation of the Control 4 system.  I think I finally understand how to specify all of this thanks to input from these two groups.  Really hard to find the information on the website.  It is all settled in my minds eye (for today anyway).

New glitch or maybe a happy change for the better.  The pricing to level the floor with lite-crete was so expensive I started thinking that it might be an opportunity to do something other than what I had in mind which was hardwood flooring.  I am considering installing  a resin or stained concrete floor which would only add a fraction to the cost.  I need to research this a little more.  Stay tuned for my decision meanwhile check out some of the looks I am considering.  Click to go back to the link.

The LED down lights were delivered yesterday, 37 of them.  Ready for the electricians next week.  Now we just need that plumber to show up so we can get the plumbing done.

The mechanical crew came last week and tore out all of the old heating systems.  Probably installed sometime in the 60's.  There will be a new more efficient girl in town when this is done.

 Week 10 Friday

 June 13th 2014

One of those weeks where it looks like nothing happened even though there were workers on the job everyday.  Little things like leveling all the ceiling and sloping floors for the barrier free showers.

Barrier free showers

Met with the fireplace company on Friday.  Can't do the fireplace I wanted but he gave me an idea of how to accomplish the look I want without breaking the bank.  Carpenter will now be able to build out the finished area around the fireplace.  One more check off the list.

New Fireplace design idea

Next week I am meeting with the window reps so we can order the new windows for the entire house.

Marvin tilt and turn windows

Wednesday finalizing all the high tech items for the house.  Security, sound system,
cat 6 wiring for computer, phone and TVs.

And away we go!

 Week 10 Monday

 June 9 2014

Crazy day on the job Monday.  There were at least a dozen guys working .  BTW Just the way I like it.  At this rate we could be done in no time.  Met with the cabinet maker yesterday, so that is in the works.

Wadhwani – White Gloss, Orange Wall, Black Lowers

Will have a combination of white lacquered cabinets and a dark grey textured wood.

Hmmm Contractor came up with a new glitch yesterday when he mentioned that there is a new code which says that operable window have to be at least 24"  off the ground.  Mine are all 18" and maybe less once we level out the floor.  He is going to talk to the inspector about it as we are an existing condition.  The  windows open at the top for air.  But the problem is that they also open in so that you can wash them from the inside.

Lot's of electrical questions and still not totally understanding all of the applications of the Control 4 system but getting closer.  Installing Cat 6 and hard wired phone everywhere as we seem to have  a lot of interference in our aerie.  Seems there are a few problems with being on the top of the hill, lot's or things swirling around us that make for bad reception.

 Week 9 Tuesday

June 3 2014

The beams are in and the last supports are down between the Dining Room and Kitchen.  It looks glorious, can't wait to be cooking in here and hanging out with family and friends.  The new window will open this room up even more.

Met with the high tech guys yesterday.  Internet connections, speakers, TV's and all that goes with that.  Everything will be operable with our iphones or ipads even if we are not home.  Ain't this new world grand!  This attaches to the wall and you can light your house or have music at a single touch.

Week 8 Friday

May 30 2014

The new glue lam beams are going in the dining/kitchen, they were about half finished. Hopefully fully completed by Monday afternoon, then they can take out the remaining supports between the new kitchen and the dining room.  The problem in the guest bathroom has been resolved just not sure about the master bath yet.

Good news about the roof we won't need to do any serious changes.  The roofing contractor says he can make it work the way it is.  And amazingly his bid is only a few thousand dollars more than it was in 2002 when we bought the building.
