Week 30 Friday

October 31 2014

We are so fortunate to live in San Francisco.  I just finished watching the Giant's parade and celebration at City Hall.  So many people of all shapes and colors in love with a sport and the people that play it.  The players were awesome, humble, congratulatory of their fellow team mates and thankful for their fans.

 Go Giants!

So excited today, they finally turned on the lights.  I'm so glad to see that these LED down lights are as warm and pleasant as I was hoping.  They are finally getting the technology to catch up with the code.

Cabinets unwrapped and ready to be installed.  Need to get these in and ready for stone measure next week.  They look great anxious to use my new kitchen.

Week 30 Thursday

October 30 2014

The rest of my cabinets were supposed to be here today.  When I didn't hear anything I contacted the cabinet shop and it seems they did not make it on the truck.  They will not be here until next Wednesday, bummer.  I hope I can get the ones I need installed in time for the stone measure on the 30th.

Checked and rechecked all the measurements for the doors now that the concrete is finished.  A little bit of variance that needs to be taken into consideration.  These doors have very little tolerance 1/8" on the top and 1/4" on the bottom.  Really want to make sure that the ones in the entry are tight so that they look like a paneled wall.  Had to order some extra hardware and wow it is expensive.  The hardware almost costs as much as the doors.  Hafele, the best, but not the cheapest.  Made in Germany.

There are no baseboards so every wall in the place needs to be tight to the wall.  One of the works applying mud.  This will have to be sanded and reapplied several times.  Like I said modern does not necessary mean simple.

Wong getting the guest bathroom ready for tile and marble.

Concrete sub will be here tomorrow to finish up the bathroom floors and get ready for the stone installs hopefully next week.

Week 30 Monday

October 27 2014

And away we go.  Can't wait to see all of my finishes going in.  You have this vision in your minds eye but to see it come to fruition is a real thrill.  Months and months of planning, angst over  decisions, purchasing and finally waiting for it all to happen. There will be lots of changes in the next few weeks.

The beginning of the cabinet delivery

Plumbing, electrical and hardware

There are a ton of cabinets still arriving and the tile which was supposed to have been delivered today.  And of course lots of appliances but they aren't coming until next week.

Week 29 Thursday

October 23 2014

Finally finished with the floors except for a little touch up and a slight redo in the bathrooms.  They look like glass, beautiful.

Fox came and measured for the two bathrooms on Wednesday morning and will be back again once the cabinets are in place.

Monday will be exciting.  They are delivering electrical, plumbings and some of the cabinets.  Hopefully the tile also will arrive from LA.  I can't wait for this place to come together.

Week 28 Saturday

Oct 18 2014

Heavy duty sander and vacuum for sanding concrete.  They are working away and hope to be done by Tuesday.  I hope so because they are coming by to measure for the stone in the two bathrooms on Wednesday.  A lot of details to be worked out with this Neolith http://www.thesize.es/web/index.php?pg=2&menu=01 product.  It's not exactly like installing regular stone.  I have to meet with the contractor to resolve a few issues.

Got a call a few days ago from a mover.  He wanted to deliver a bed I ordered today.  The company wasn't supposed to send until I told them to.  Anyway, everything has been worked out and he will deliver in a week or so.

This is a queen size for the guest bedroom.  Like the idea that it has storage underneath in case we have to move to a small place someday where a King size bed won't fit.

There should be some action next week if this floor gets done.

Bags of cement
Walls and floors ready

The walls have all been protected and a sealer has been put on the concrete.  Next step is to mix all of those bags of cement with water and lay down a thin layer of concrete.  The concrete will be sanded to a fine finish in preparation for the finish coats.

Week 27 Saturday

October 11 2014

So we pulled everyone off the job on Friday, had the place all cleaned up ready for the concrete overlay sub, but did he show up?  Of course not.  By 9 I called to see what time he would be arriving.  Oh, forgot to tell me that he hadn't finished his other job yet.  Meanwhile I had asked the other two owners if it would be possible for them to work through the weekend, to which they graciously said yes.  He swears he will start on Sunday but then told me it would take 7 to 9 days to complete.  He had previously said 5.  Meanwhile I have scheduled, cabinet delivery, appliance delivery, marble measure, etc. and now I have to call all of them and re-schedule.  The frustrations of all jobs.  Everyone is so busy right now and when something happens on another job it really pushes everything else back.  And you wonder why it takes so long to get anything done.

I've ordered all the tile, but of course it can't be delivered until the overlay is done.  Now I have to delay this delivery.  This is going to be the new look of the living room fireplace.

Anyway, Blue Angels are flying today and tomorrow and we have a fabulous view from the apt we are renting.  The family will be gathering to see the action.  I think our two little boys will be beside themselves.

Week 27 Friday

October 7 2014

Painters are on the job and everything is looking swell.  Met with the door company on Monday and we finally have the doors installed correctly.  The order has been placed and they are in the works.  Should be here in 5 or 6 week.

Fireplace ready for tile.  I will have it shipped from LA next week as soon as the overlay is finished.  They start on Friday and are working through the weekend and into the beginning of the week to get it finished.  I think I have decided on black floors.  I'm waiting to see the samples.

Both the bathrooms are ready for the stone measure a week from Friday.  They told me it was a three week turn around.  They can't do the tile until the stone is in place.  The old catch 22.

Only half my cabinets are here and I was just told the rest wouldn't come until the end of the month.  This is really a bitch as I ordered them ages ago.  Again can't measure for stone until the cabinets are in so doubt we'll be done when expected.

I am so ready to have this done and move back in.
